A hickey is a small bruise caused by suction or pressure on the skin. There is no way to make it disappear right away, but simple care may help it fade and make the area feel better.
In the first day, applying a cold compress for 15 to 20 minutes at a time may help reduce swelling and limit the bruise from getting darker. After the first 24 to 48 hours, gentle warmth may help improve blood flow to the area and support normal healing. Do not rub, scrape, or press hard on the hickey, as this can irritate the skin or make the bruising worse.
Most hickeys fade on their own within several days, although some can take longer depending on skin tone, bruise size, and how much pressure caused it. Makeup or clothing can be used to cover it while it heals.
Topical products like arnica or vitamin K creams may help some bruises, but results are not guaranteed. Avoid taking medicines or supplements just to treat a hickey unless advised by a healthcare professional. See a dermatologist or doctor if the bruise is very painful, keeps spreading, or appears without a clear cause.
