Most cysts cannot be safely or reliably dissolved naturally. Some small or uncomplicated cysts may shrink or go away on their own, depending on the type and location, but home remedies cannot remove the cyst wall or guarantee that it will disappear.
For skin cysts, a warm, moist compress may help reduce discomfort and encourage drainage if the cyst is inflamed. It should not be squeezed, cut, or picked at, because this can worsen inflammation, cause infection, or lead to scarring. Natural products such as oils, herbs, or poultices have very limited evidence and should not replace medical care.
The right approach depends on what kind of cyst it is. Functional ovarian cysts, for example, often resolve with time and follow-up, while kidney, Baker’s, infected, or persistent skin cysts may need medical treatment. A cyst that is painful, growing, red, draining pus, or associated with fever should be checked promptly.
Avoid self-medicating or trying to drain a cyst at home. See a primary care clinician first, or a dermatologist for skin cysts and a gynecologist for ovarian cysts.
