Urethritis is inflammation of the urethra that can cause painful urination, burning, genital discomfort, and yellow-green or bloody discharge. Causes include STIs such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, herpes, trichomonas, or irritation from catheters. Diagnosis is based on symptoms plus urine tests and discharge cultures.
