How many months is 35 weeks?

“I'm 35 weeks pregnant, and I'm getting confused about how far along that is in months. How many months is 35 weeks?”

35 weeks is about 8 months and 3 weeks pregnant and are in your ninth month of pregnancy. Babies born from 37 weeks through 38 weeks and 6 days are considered early term, while babies born from 39 weeks through 40 weeks and 6 days are considered full term.

Your baby’s major organs and body structures are formed, but the baby is still gaining weight and body fat. The brain, lungs, and nervous system also continue to mature. By 35 weeks, most babies are in a head-down position, although some may still turn before birth.

You may notice painless tightening in your belly, known as Braxton Hicks contractions, and your breasts may leak a yellowish fluid called colostrum. Contact your healthcare provider promptly if contractions become regular or painful, your water breaks, you have bleeding, or your baby is moving less than usual.

This is a good time to prepare for delivery by washing the baby’s clothes, setting up a safe sleeping area, confirming where you plan to give birth, and discussing your birth preferences and postpartum birth control options with your healthcare provider.

Prenatal visits have traditionally been scheduled every 2 weeks from about 28 to 36 weeks, but the timing may be individualized based on your health, your pregnancy, and your provider’s recommendations.

Talk to your OB-GYN or midwife if you have questions about how to calculate your gestational age, your symptoms, or your baby’s development.
