34 weeks is about 8 months pregnant. At this stage, you are in the third trimester, and your due date is getting closer as both your body and your baby prepare for delivery.
You may feel uncomfortable because of the size and weight of your belly. Everyday movements, such as bending over or lying down, may become more difficult. You may also have trouble sleeping, need to urinate more often, and notice occasional painless tightening of your belly, known as Braxton Hicks contractions. Your breasts may begin leaking small amounts of yellowish colostrum, which is the first milk.
Your baby is fully formed but is still gaining weight, and organs such as the lungs are continuing to mature. At 34 weeks, the baby is usually about 18 inches long and weighs around 4.5 to 5 pounds, although growth can vary.
Talk to your OB-GYN or midwife if you have questions about how far along you are. They can evaluate your pregnancy and order tests if needed to make sure it is progressing normally.
