Does Seroquel cause weight gain?

“I started taking Seroquel a few weeks ago and have recently put on some weight. Does Seroquel cause weight gain?”

Seroquel can cause weight gain. In fact, weight gain is a common side effect of Seroquel (quetiapine), especially during the first few weeks or months of treatment.

Other very common side effects of quetiapine include dry mouth, dizziness, and sleepiness. Eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise is a good way to help manage weight gain while taking Seroquel.

If you think you are gaining weight, having other side effects, or have questions about using quetiapine, talk with a psychiatrist or the healthcare provider who prescribed the medication.
