Feeling like peeing during sex is quite common, especially for women and people assigned female at birth (AFAB).
This happens because the bladder is located close to the vaginal canal, and penetration can put pressure on the area, creating a sensation similar to the need to urinate. For men and people assigned male at birth (AMAB), however, the urge to pee during sex is less common.
In some cases, this urge can be caused by anxiety, stress, or bladder conditions such as overactive bladder or urinary incontinence. Certain health issues, like urinary tract infections or prostate problems in males, can also increase the need to urinate in general, though not necessarily during sexual activity.
Avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods may help, as these can irritate the bladder. Quitting smoking, exercising regularly, and maintaining a healthy weight can also reduce bladder pressure and improve bladder control.
If the feeling of needing to pee during sex happens often or becomes uncomfortable, it’s best to see a urologist or urogynecologist to check for any underlying issues and get appropriate treatment.
