How many months is 22 weeks?

“I'm 22 weeks pregnant, and I can't figure out whether that's 5 months or 6 months. How many months is 22 weeks?”

22 weeks pregnant marks the end of the fifth month and the beginning of the sixth month of pregnancy.

At 22 weeks, prenatal visits are usually scheduled every 4 to 5 weeks. During these appointments, your healthcare provider will check your weight gain, blood pressure, swelling, vaccination status, nutrition, emotional well-being, your baby’s heartbeat, fetal movements, and the results of any tests completed so far.

Your provider will also measure your belly to monitor your baby’s growth. A second-trimester ultrasound, also called an anatomy scan, is often performed around this stage to check that your baby is growing and developing as expected.

It can be confusing to work out how many months 22 weeks is because calendar months are not all exactly 4 weeks long. For this reason, obstetric providers rely on gestational weeks rather than months throughout pregnancy.

If you have questions about how far along you are or how your baby is developing, speak with your OB-GYN or midwife. They can assess your pregnancy and recommend any necessary tests or follow-up care.
