How long it takes pinworms to die after medication can vary depending on how your digestive system works. Some types of worms are also more sensitive to the medication and are easier to eliminate.
Some intestinal worms that respond more quickly to treatment include roundworms (Ascaris lumbricoides), hookworms, whipworms (Trichuris trichiura), and pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis). These worms are usually cleared with a single dose because they are more sensitive to the medication.
Other parasites, such as Strongyloides stercoralis, tapeworms (Taenia species), Hymenolepis nana, and cutaneous larva migrans, may take longer to die. In these cases, albendazole is usually taken once daily for 3 days to make sure the treatment is effective.
If you have questions about treatment or symptoms do not improve, consult your primary care provider or a gastroenterologist for proper evaluation and guidance.
