Female ejaculation is the involuntary release of a large amount of clear, odorless fluid through the urethra during orgasm. This fluid is similar to urine but more diluted and is often referred to as squirting or squirt.
In addition to this, female ejaculation may also involve the release of smaller amounts of thicker, whitish fluid produced by the paraurethral glands, also known as the female prostate.
The experience of female ejaculation can vary between women and is sometimes mistaken for urinary incontinence. However, urinary incontinence happens due to weakness in the bladder and pelvic floor muscles and has different characteristics, such as color, odor, and volume.
How female ejaculation happens
The process of female ejaculation is not fully understood, but it is believed to occur through vaginal, clitoral, and urethral stimulation along with strong contractions of the vaginal walls and surrounding muscles.
These contractions may cause the bladder to release urine or urine-like fluid in large quantities, while the Skene’s glands contract to release prostatic fluid.
Can all women ejaculate?
Although Skene’s glands are present in all women, female ejaculation does not occur in everyone. This is mainly due to anatomical differences and the positioning of the glands.
Some women have glands that make ejaculation easier, while others may find it more difficult.
There are also women who may not be able to relax enough during sexual activity for the contractions during orgasm to result in ejaculation.
In these situations, it may be possible to learn how to ejaculate by practicing relaxation and breathing techniques during intimacy.
Characteristics of female ejaculation fluid
The main characteristics of the fluid released during female ejaculation are:
-
Clear or slightly yellowish liquid without odor
-
Thick, whitish fluid similar to semen
The amount of fluid released can vary widely, from small to large volumes, depending on the type of female ejaculation, and this can differ from woman to woman.
Types of female ejaculation
There are two main types of female ejaculation:
1. Squirting ejaculation
Squirting, also called squirt, is a type of female ejaculation marked by the release of large amounts of fluid, usually between 15 and 100 mL.
This fluid is similar to very diluted urine, as it contains creatinine, uric acid, and urea. It is generally clear or slightly yellowish and odorless.
2. Fluid ejaculation
Fluid ejaculation involves the release of small amounts of thick, milky fluid, usually up to 5 mL.
This fluid contains fructose, glucose, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA), produced by two glands located near the urethral opening called the paraurethral or Skene’s glands.
Because this fluid contains PSA, the same substance found in the male prostate, these glands are often referred to as the female prostate.
