3 Great teas to fight intestinal gases

Herbal teas are a great alternative you can do at home to help eliminate intestinal gas, reducing swelling and pain, and can be taken as soon as the symptoms appear or in your daily routine.

In addition to teas, it is also important to exercise, drink plenty of water and follow a diet with light meals based on soups, vegetables, fruits and legumes, avoiding foods that may cause gas, such as beans, potatoes, cabbage and cauliflower.

1. Peppermint tea

Peppermint is one of the plants that appear to have the greatest effect on excess gas because of its carminative effect, and several studies have shown its effectiveness in reducing intestinal symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome.

In addition, this plant also has a relaxing effect that may help to decrease the tension in the muscles of the digestive system, facilitating the release of gases.

Ingredients

  • 6 fresh peppermint leaves or 10 g of dried leaves;
  • 1 cup of boiling water.

Preparation method

Add the ingredients in a cup and let the mixture rest for 5 to 10 minutes. After straining, allow to warm and drink 3 to 4 times a day, or whenever necessary.

Ideally, peppermint should be harvested shortly before making the tea for best results, however, it can also be used in its dried form.

2. Fennel tea

This is another plant very well studied to reduce the amount of intestinal gases and that is used in diverse cultures for this purpose. In addition to decreasing the amount of gas, fennel also prevents abdominal cramps and relieves stomach ache.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of fennel;
  • 1 cup of boiling water.

Preparation method

Put the fennel in a cup and cover with boiling water. Let the mixture for 5 to 10 minutes, cool, strain and drink the following, doing this 2-3 times daily after meals.

Fennel is quite safe and can even be used to treat colics in babies, however, it is best to talk to your pediatrician before using.

3. Lemon balm tea

Lemon balm is also widely used in popular medicine to treat excess gas and other digestive disorders. This plant has essential oils, such as Eugenol, which can help relieve pain and reduce the onset of muscle spasms, contributing to less gas formation.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of lemon balm tea;
  • 1 cup of boiling water.

Preparation method

Add the leaves in the cup of boiling water, cover and let the mixture rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Then strain and drink 2 to 3 times a day.

It is important not to add sugar or honey, as they also favor the production of gases.
