Liver Detox Diet

A liver detox diet includes specific foods that can help to deflate and eliminate toxins from the body, such as drinking detox juice and taking propolis daily. In addition, it is also important to maintain a healthy diet and avoid eating processed foods as they are rich in preservatives and additives that will be processed by the intestines and liver.

The liver is the main organ that removes toxins from the body and can be damaged due to a poor diet and excessive alcohol. However, it is important to remember that in cases of specific liver diseases such as hepatitis or inflammation, the doctor should be consulted, as only food may not be sufficient to treat the problem.

Liver Detox Diet

1. Propolis

Propolis is a natural product produced by bees that has anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties, which may help to accelerate the body's ability to detox itself. In addition, it can help to improve digestion and stimulates healing. Learn how to take propolis.

2. Detox juice

Detox juices act as major inputs of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to the body, which are essential to help the liver filter blood and toxins from food and medication.

Ideally is to consume 1 glass of detox juice a day, and vary the vegetables and fruits used in the juices, as there is a greater variety of nutrients consumed, such as vitamin C, folic acid, B vitamins, zinc, calcium and magnesium. See 7 detox juices recipes.

3. Teas

Teas are also rich in phytochemicals and antioxidants that can improve circulation and aid in body detoxification, with teas of boldo, thistle marian and green tea being the most commonly used to aid liver function.

However, it is important to remember that the recommendation is to drink only 2 cups of tea a day as too much teas can also cause liver damage.

4. Ginger

Ginger is widely used for its anti-inflammatory, digestive and antimicrobial properties, improving bowel cleansing and fat digestion, which can make your liver work easier.

Ginger can be consumed in the form of tea or included in juices and sauces, and is easily added to the food routine. A good strategy is to include a piece of ginger in the detox juice or teas that will be used to help the liver. See other foods that can help detox the liver.

What foods to avoid

Besides having a good diet and investing in the consumption of propolis, teas, ginger and detox juices, it is very important to avoid foods that worsen the functioning of the liver and interfere with the detox of the body, such as:

  • Alcoholic beverages;
  • Processed meat: ham, turkey breast, sausage, bacon, salami and mortadella;
  • Fried foods and foods high in fat, such as pastries, drumsticks and chicken skin;
  • Artificial seasonings and sauces, such as diced spices, shoyo sauce, salad dressings and meats.

In addition, it is also important to avoid the use of over-the-counter drugs, as practically all drugs pass through the liver for processing, making recovery difficult.
